Role

Pre-production, Director of Photography, Editorial, Finisher

For Princeton Day School’s announcement of their new Head of School, a short film was produced that was both charming and, let’s be honest, downright adorable. Actual PDS students from all grade levels—lower, middle, and upper school—took the lead in “interviewing” Dr. Nicholson-Flynn, as though they were conducting the Head of School selection process themselves. Their questions ranged from fun topics like “What’s your favorite superhero?” to more thoughtful discussions about using data to improve instruction and student learning. The result was a personable, engaging introduction that revealed both Dr. Nicholson-Flynn’s warmth and her vision for the school community.

The production transformed the Head of School’s cozy office into a welcoming and professional interview set. Three cameras were used—each with lenses selected for a mix of medium shots and close-ups—while a third camera on a motorized slider provided fluid, dynamic movement that kept the piece visually alive.

Lighting presented the greatest challenge. With the need to film 360 degrees around the room, a carefully designed lighting setup ensured versatility without cluttering the frame. Every fixture was positioned to avoid reflections and equipment in the shot, maintaining a clean, polished aesthetic that complemented the natural warmth of the environment.

The final film strikes a perfect balance between playfulness and purpose. It captures the heart of Princeton Day School’s culture while highlighting Dr. Nicholson-Flynn’s thoughtful approach to leadership and learning. This project stands out as a favorite—one that merges storytelling and craft to create a film as inspiring and genuine as the community it represents.
